Michael is the Chief Executive for the Heritage Trust for the North West which is a thriving building preservation trust whose focus is as much on the people using heritage buildings as the properties themselves. The trust co-creates with communities to establish how their buildings can be run sustainably in the future.
Previously, Michael has been the Director of Legal and Governance at the National Lottery Heritage Fund and Head of Legal at English Heritage.
Other legal roles include working at Homes England, the North West Development Agency and Eversheds LLP. This combination of a legal, regeneration and a heritage background means he is well placed to provide valuable technical knowledge alongside a broader understanding of the historic environment: its need for preservation but also its role in economic and cultural renewal.
His wider charitable interests include being a volunteer leader in the Boys’ Brigade, a uniformed youth organisation for young people, including holding the position of President of the Manchester and District Battalion from 2016 to 2021.
