Hear from Conference Organiser, Izabella!
With under 2 months to go, preparation is well underway for this year’s conference.
Conference is all about building relationships, and that starts right at the planning stages. From the beginning of the year, I’ve worked with an incredible steering group made of up local Bradford heritage organisations to make sure that the conference stays true to what we are hoping to achieve.
I’ve also met lots of amazing people in Bradford over the last few months and fallen in love with the city. Not only are there so many beautiful buildings, with Little Germany alone being so densely populated with listed buildings that there’s more than one on every street, but there is a vibrancy and culture that really makes Bradford feel like a great place to be hosting our conference this year. It is the 2025 City of Culture, which I’m sure has helped to create this feeling. There is an energy and a buzz to the city and people that is a little bit infectious. It helps that I get to talk to people about their heritage and buildings and projects as those always invoke passion, but it is so lovely to see!
There are 2 opportunities to take a tour of sites in Bradford during Conference – on the Sunday and the Tuesday, where you’ll be able to experience the city for yourself.
The venues have been selected and really encompass the feel of conference. St George’s Hall and The Great Victoria Hotel both have rich history and are interesting examples of how heritage buildings can be regenerated and adapted for modern use.
The breakout sessions focus on topics and issues that are relevant in today’s environment. For individuals and organisations who are at the beginning of their heritage journey, the session ‘Maintaining Heritage Buildings’ is relevant. For those looking to learn about regeneration projects, the session about ‘Saltaire Retrofit, lessons learned’ will be of particular interest.
We’ve announced the programme on our Conference webpage where you can find everything you are interested in. Be sure to check back regularly as sessions are being added.
