This stunning Victorian villa is located in the shadow of Dunfermline Abbey yet has been vacant for many years. Fife Historic Buildings Trust managed an exterior restoration phase in 2023 and hopes to work with Fife Council to secure a long- term future for the building. The tour will offer an opportunity to see the repairs up close and talk to those involved in delivering them.

Tour description 

 

Walking tour of historic Inverkeithing. Founded in 1160, this town’s modest-scale conservation area has 5 A-listed buildings. Fife Historic Buildings Trust have worked with Fife Council for 5 years in Inverkeithing  to deliver an imaginative area-based, conservation driven project. A medieval Friary Hospitium overlooks the scenic natural harbour, and the World Heritage iconic Forth Rail Bridge

A walking tour through beautiful Pittencrieff Park, known locally as ‘the Glen’. The tour will tell you about the history of this beautiful park from ancient royals to current times. You will learn the story of why it was bought in 1903 by Scottish/American Industrialist and Philanthropist Andrew Carnegie who described the park as his ‘most soul satisfying gift.’ The tour will also incorporate a private tour of Pittencrieff House, and the ambitious plans to regenerate it and reopen it to the public

Tour description 

 

Fire Station Creative is a social enterprise in Dunfermline, Fife.   

Originally Dunfermline’s Fire Station, this iconic building was designed by James Shearer and built in 1934. The Fife Fire and Rescue Service relocated in 2010 and this extraordinary building had been lying empty since, a listed building on the ‘at risk register’. It was re-opened by John Byrne in July 2015 after restorations were completed.

Tour Title:   ‘In the Limelight for 30 Years’ with the Scottish Lime Centre Trust 
Tour description (min. 25-max 50 words):   Join Roz Artis, Director & Mitchell Fotheringham, Traditional Building Surveyor of the Scottish Lime Centre Trust to explore the historical significance of the planned village of Charlestown and its development over the years with a guided walk. Along the way you will see the limekilns, their historical significance, the village’s industrial past and their preservation challenges. 

You will also witness a live demonstration of preparing and applying traditional limewashes which will give you insights into the materials, techniques and benefits of using limewashes for preservation.
