The Heritage Network is delighted to announce the appointment of its new Scotland Heritage Trainee, Samya Kelly.
The Heritage Trainee role is made possible by funding from Historic Environment Scotland and the National Trust for Scotland, and provides an opportunity for a recent graduate or returner-to-work to gain professional experience and skills in the heritage sector.
Samya graduated from the University of Glasgow with an MLitt in Dress & Textile Histories in 2023. She is interested in the enduring local and national legacies of Scotland’s historic textile production and trade, and has previously volunteered at New Lanark World Heritage Site.
“Living in Glasgow, I am constantly inspired by the diversity of community-based organisations working to preserve, restore, and reuse the city’s built heritage. As a trainee, I am now very excited to have the opportunity to expand my knowledge of the community-led heritage sector in Scotland and to develop an understanding of the key skills and resources that are needed to support these organisations to succeed.”
During her 12-month traineeship, Samya will assist with the Network’s member outreach and case study development in Scotland, as well as supporting the delivery of its annual programme of events across the UK. She is also looking forward to working closely with her fellow trainees to facilitate the Network’s rapidly growing Youth Forum and Digital Heroes volunteer scheme.
