The home of the 20th century Cumbrian poet Norman Nicholson, in Millom, has been bought by the group aiming to rescue it from increasing deterioration and turn it into a cafe and a Nicholson-themed visitor attraction.
Norman Nicholson House CIC has raised the money from an online crowdfunder matched by the Architectural Heritage Fund, and a generous benefactor. Chair of the NNH CIC Charlie Lambert said: ‘This is quite a moment and a very important milestone in our journey towards turning the house into a place that Millom and Cumberland can be proud of. It hasn’t been fully occupied for many years and there are a lot of repairs to be done before we can move on to the refurbishment of the house’s interior – so the quest for funding is about to start all over again. But we’re up for the challenge and we believe that this house will have an inspirational role to play in Millom for generations to come. Thank you to everyone who has helped us get this far, including the Heritage Trust Network for their expertise, encouragement and support’.
